A Little About Me:

True Story, Yano was a child actor. He’s most notably recognized for his role as the bully toady, “Grover Dill”, in the 1983 film A Christmas Story, but now he is known as the “Anti-bully”—he’s fully embraced his passion for inspiring a fit life transformation in others. When you get typecast as a bully, but you’re really a lovable teddy bear, it can lead you to eat your feelings and become obese. (We’d show you a picture of Yano, “the obese years,” but those have all been burned and sent to Hades). In shedding the weight and studying everything he could about fitness, Yano gained a unique insight into individual transformation versus the one size fits all approach. Since 2001, he has helped 100s of people with their own metamorphosis through personal training, fitness education, and nutritional consultation.

A Little About Me:

Certified “Fitness Nerd!” You don’t get to this level of nerdom without a true passion for the fitness world, which José has been a fan of since his early 20’s. Towering at 6 foot 1, it may be hard to believe that José was once small and picked on. He turned to weightlifting to stop getting bullied and found his calling. Jose acquired his book smarts from UNC Chapel Hill.  While pursuing his fitness education in Exercise Science, José worked as a chef. And he found that Food and Fitness are the perfect relationship to share with others to enhance their quality of life. Ask José about MMA or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and his eyes will twinkle. Oh,…and he loves kitties.

If I told you, it wouldn’t be  a secret!

A Little About Me:

Wife and mama bear of 2 kiddos, my family leads a very busy and active lifestyle—#baseballmom and #cheermom—coaching and “fitnessing” as much as life allows, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! After a downward spiral of bad lifestyle choices, life gave me a second chance to not only take my own health back but also lit the desire to help and encourage others in their same pursuits. With 2+ years of experience as a Level One Crossfit coach, I have a solid foundation of fitness knowledge. Knowing that there is so much more to learn (because not everyone wants to do Crossfit), I am super excited to expand my education by actively engaging in an NASM CPT certification course, and applying my new knowledge and skills to help a more diverse population under Yano and Jose’s direction! It’s only too late if you never actually start!

Mind Over Mater Mental Strength!

A Little About Me:

If the root is deep there is no reason to fear the wind. To me, this quote means if you are true to who you are, love yourself, and have self-respect you have everything you need to overcome obstacles with grace and dignity; live with peace and freedom. This became my personal mantra when I realized how life can take unexpected turns; We have a choice to let it rule us or learn from it and grow.

I have practiced yoga for over 18 years and have a passion and love for the practice because it has empowered me in so many mental and physical ways. Getting on the mat is a way to surrender one’s self from outside distraction. Putting focus on the thoughts, breath, and movements during yoga is a way to learn about yourself and recognize where the mind takes you during change and uncomfortable situations. The power of the mental practice yoga offers can change the way we respond to stress.

Personally, I noticed I was a lot stronger than I had lead myself to believe. For so long I was resistant to learning about me and didn’t even realize it. It was through my yoga practice at 216 lbs, I recognized how strong I was and that I could achieve anything when I shut down the negative voices in my head. It was yoga that gave me the mental awareness and taught me self-love and respect.

The physical benefits of yoga were obvious. I developed strength and comfort in poses that were hard for many adults because lack of stability and stretching. My muscles were loose, bones healthy, and mind was strong. Losing over 80lbs I found myself participating in activities such as running, weight lifting, martial arts, and swimming which seemed much easier for me to excel in because of yoga.

It was late 2016 I started to think about transforming my career to health and fitness. Through my personal experience I developed and love and passion for inspiring others to find their best self through yoga and fitness. In spring of 2018 I completed my 200-hour yoga teacher training at Lifetime Fitness. I went on to complete my Grounded Kids certification for pre-K, children, teens, special needs, and PTSD. I also am certified by the American Canoe Association in Stand-Up Paddleboard and SUP yoga through Soulful SUP and Yoga. I am currently working on my NASM personal training certification. In July of 2018 I left my corporate job to follow my dream of inspiring and leading others in their journey of health and fitness.

My Certifications:
